Opening the (online) doors of Johnstons of Elgin reveals a 223-year-old story of Scottish innovation and luxury, with the brand's Spring Summer 2020 collection introducing superfine tailored and cashmere pieces, adorned with vivid colours and abstract prints. Fringed jumpers, ponchos and cashmere athluxe sit beside a selection of contemporary coats, skirts and jackets, making for a range of both formal and casual ready‐to-wear, all designed and made in Scotland.

Woven exclusively at its mill on the banks of the River Lossie, all of the fabric used is unique to Johnstons of Elgin. SS20 continues to use the latest super-lightweight fabrics and pioneer never woven before double face blends.

Inspired by the aesthetics of 1930's cubist artists such as Picasso and Delaunay, this collection is centred around fine knits and easy wardrobe staples for the modern woman. Expert craftsmanship and innovative technology have combined to shape contemporary knitwear decorated with hand-painted patterns that play with contrasting textures.

Knitwear

Loose fitting, fine worsted merino wool jumpers are on offer for all summer occasions. This season’s knitwear highlights include the Flora Hand Intarsia Sweater, and the Mismatched Stripe Cardigan which comes in three colourways.

Tailoring

Using Johnstons of Elgin cloths woven in Scotland and tailored in Italy, clean silhouettes and relaxed shapes take centre stage in this collection. Highlights include the Pyjama Top and Trouser Combo which perfectly captures effortless, contemporary dressing. Similarly, the Drop Shoulder Soft Jacket and Skirt perfectly allow for elegant day‐to‐night dressing.

Accessories

Here, a mix of colourful, abstract print‐inspired tissue square scarves make their debut. Johnstons of Elgin's distinctive, paper-thin cashmere scarves are ideal for the warmer summer months and can be worn as a traditional neck tie or a hair accessory in a chic nod to the current headband trend. The brand's bold new Ombre Stole, which comes in red, blue and multi, is the modern choice to immediately transform any outfit.

This collection exemplifies Johnstons of Elgin’s meticulous and unparalleled craftsmanship, marrying heritage techniques and finishes with modern innovative technology. From bold reds and blues to sun-baked neutrals, this is a collection as confident as the woman who wears it.
